The first EU authorization for insects as novel food has been approved by the EU Commission and the Member States. It will benefits to the French company Agronutris who has an exclusivity for 5 years because the EFSA opinion of January 2021 was based on proprietary data.

The insects raised and transformed by Agronutris can be used in whole and dried form (e.g. snacking) or in a powder form up to 10% in protein products, biscuits and other products listed in the regulation.
